Most DTF film problems that get blamed on the printer are actually film problems. Feeding jams, film sticking to itself, powder scattering unevenly — a lot of that comes down to which coating your film carries, and whether that coating is on one side or two.

This is the second question buyers ask us most often, especially shops running in humid climates. Here is how single-sided and double-sided matte DTF film actually differ, whether you can print on both sides, and what to do when summer humidity starts ruining your yield.


What Is the Difference Between Single-Sided and Double-Sided Matte DTF Film?

The names describe the coating, not the look of the transfer.

Single-sided matte DTF film has one printable side and one smooth side. That smooth back side is a feeding surface — it is designed for roll-to-roll printers, where the film has to travel through the feed path reliably without grabbing.

Double-sided matte DTF film carries an anti-static coating on both sides. That second coating is not there for printing; it is there to stop the film from sticking to itself and to keep feeding stability in humid environments.

The practical difference shows up at two moments: when the film goes through the machine, and when it sits on the shelf in July.

Can You Print on Both Sides of DTF Film?

No — and this is worth stating clearly, because the term "double-sided" leads a lot of buyers to assume the film prints twice.

Only one side of our DTF film is printable. The other side exists either as a feeding surface (single-sided film) or as anti-static protection (double-sided film). If you load the film the wrong way round, the ink will not bond the way it should.

How to check before you commit a sheet: gently scratch the corner with your fingernail. The printable side feels slightly rougher — that is the ink-absorbing coating.


Why Summer Humidity Causes Film Sticking — and How Double-Sided Film Fixes It

Here is the failure pattern we hear about every summer. The workshop gets warm and wet, the film picks up moisture, and suddenly sheets cling to each other, feed at an angle, or wrinkle on the way through. Productivity drops, and the operator starts blaming the printer.

Two changes solve most of it:

  1. Switch to double-sided matte film. The anti-static coating on both faces stops the film from sticking and keeps feeding stable when humidity is high.
  2. Control the room, not just the film. Store film in a humidity-controlled area below 60% relative humidity. Even the best-coated roll will struggle if it is sitting next to an open window in a wet month.

One adjacent point worth knowing: static is also a common reason powder fails to stick evenly. If you are fighting both problems at once, film choice and workshop conditions are the first two things to check — not the powder.
